Recreational Pilot Permit (RPP)
In August of 1995, Transport Canada created a new type of flight training called the Recreational Pilot Permit.Although it is relatively restrictive, it is an opportunity for people to learn to fly for about half the cost of a Private Pilot Licence - and all hours will count towards the Private Pilot Licence if you wish to attain that at a later date.

Privileges:
The holder of a Recreational Pilot Permit may, in daytime visual flying conditions, act as Pilot-in-Command in:
- single-engine, single pilot, non-high-performance airplanes of a class and type as endorsed on the licence
- an aircraft designed to carry a maximum of 4 persons, although, no more than one passenger be carried on board
- an ultra-light airplane
- Canada only
Skill:
Within 12 months preceding date of application for permit, the applicant shall successfully complete a flight test to Standards as outlined in “Flight Test Standards Recreational Pilot Permit” TP 12475E.
Knowledge:
The student must pass, with 60%, each of the following mandatory areas as well as overall written examinations RPPAE or PPAER:
- Air Law
- Navigation
- Meteorology
- General Knowledge
